"The NDTV Indian of the year goes to Amitabh Bachchan", how nostalgic Prannoy Roy was , when he announed this award.Amitabh Bachchan deserves the respect he enjoys,
But are'nt we pushing this too far, like what spectacular Mr.Bachchan has done to be awarded with such an epitome.OK I get it ,you star in a number of good films, hang out with socialites, then get admitted to a hospital for some unheard of diseases, get the sympathy of the nation, and thus get the award.Like too, the other nominies, like Sachin Tendulkar,Fine he has 35 centuries to his name, he made us proud in the whole world,but just one century in the whole year, does he deserve even to be a candidate.Oh! yes,the the hi-fly'in Sania , who is in the top 50 and has not won a major yet,and we are celebrating like she has won some grandslam.
Then you would ask me ; then who should have deserved the award?
The answer is quite simple, basically to a person who is now responsible for the good governance of the country.Yes!! Mrs Sonia Gandhi, She came up trumps for all the odds stacked against her. For giving us a "partially" corruption free gavernment,for accountability.
The Indian of the Year award should go to that person, who marks a change in the life of an odinary Indian.That is the true recognition of the one billion Indians.
